What Is the Quran?
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ
This is the Book about which there is no doubt. (Quran 2:2)

What is the Quran? Muslims hold it to be the literal word of God — preserved unchanged for 1,400 years, memorized by millions, and unmatched in its language.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَكِتَٰبٌ عَزِيزٌ
And indeed, it is a mighty Book.

Not About God — From God
Muslims believe the Quran is the literal speech of God, revealed in Arabic to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over twenty-three years. It is not a biography of Muhammad, nor a collection of his sayings. It presents itself as God speaking directly to humanity — and it has never been edited since.
Memorized, Not Just Printed
Within a generation it was preserved in writing and in the hearts of memorizers. Today millions of people across every continent have committed all 600 pages to memory, word for word. No other text in history is preserved this way, by living human beings, in a single unchanged form.
An Open Challenge
The Quran challenges any doubter to produce even a single chapter like it (2:23). For fourteen centuries, the masters of the very language it was revealed in have not met that challenge — and many who set out to refute it ended up believing it.
