What Is Qadar — Does God Control Everything?

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ

Indeed, all things We created with measure. (Quran 54:49)

What is Qadar in Islam? God decrees all yet humans truly choose. His knowledge doesn't compel — and trusting His decree brings peace beyond our control.

لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا

God does not burden a soul beyond its capacity.

— Quran 2:286

Both, Not Either

Islam holds two truths together: God knows and decrees all that happens, and human beings genuinely choose. We are not puppets, yet nothing escapes God's knowledge. The Quran commands us to strive and warns us of our choices — which makes no sense unless those choices are real.

Knowledge Is Not Compulsion

God knowing what you will choose does not force you to choose it, just as a teacher who knows a student will pass does not take the exam for him. God's knowledge is perfect because He is outside of time, seeing what is, to us, still future.

Peace in Trust

Belief in qadar brings a deep calm: you do your sincere best, then trust that whatever unfolds passed through the wisdom and mercy of God. You are responsible for the effort, not the outcome. It cures both arrogance in success and despair in failure.

Row your boat with all your strength — and trust the One who set the current.
