Why Does God Allow Suffering?
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُم بِشَىْءٍ مِّنَ ٱلْخَوْفِ وَٱلْجُوعِ
We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger. (Quran 2:155)

Why does God allow suffering? Islam answers without platitudes — pain is real, this life is a test, and perfect justice and reward await in the Hereafter.
إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى ٱلصَّٰبِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
The patient will be given their reward without measure.

Islam Does Not Look Away
Islam never pretends suffering is an illusion or that the good are spared. The prophets themselves — the most beloved to God — suffered most. Pain is real, grief is real, and Islam gives you permission to weep. It does not demand a fake smile in the face of loss.
A Test, Not a Punishment
This world is described as a place of trial, brief and unfinished by design. Suffering can be a refining fire — burning away arrogance, awakening compassion, turning a heart back toward God. The Prophet ﷺ said that even a thorn that pricks a believer erases some of their sins.
The Account Is Not Closed
The deepest answer is the Hereafter. A child who suffered, an innocent who was wronged — their story does not end at the grave. God promises perfect justice and a reward so vast that those who suffered most may wish, on that Day, that their pain had been even greater.
Islam does not hand you a tidy reason for your pain — it hands you the One who is holding you through it.
