What Is Sin in Islam?
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ ٱللَّهَ يَجِدِ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
Whoever does wrong then seeks God's forgiveness will find God Forgiving, Merciful. (Quran 4:110)

What is sin in Islam? No original sin, no inherited guilt — every child is born pure, and the door of repentance stays open to all who turn back.
كُلُّ بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ خَطَّآءٌ وَخَيْرُ ٱلْخَطَّآئِينَ ٱلتَّوَّٰبُونَ

No Inherited Stain
Islam teaches that every child is born pure, with no original sin to carry. You are not born guilty; you are born clean. Sin is not who you are — it is something you do, and therefore something you can turn away from.
A Debt That Can Be Cleared
Sin is real — it harms the soul and others — but it is never a dead end. The door of repentance, Islam says, stays open until the sun rises from the west. No sin is too large for God's mercy, and no person is beyond return, however far they have wandered.
From Shame to Hope
Islam moves the heart away from paralyzing shame toward active hope. The point of recognizing a sin is not to drown in guilt, but to turn back, to grow, to rise a little higher than before. God, the Prophet ﷺ said, rejoices at the return of His servant.
In Islam, the worst thing about a sin is not that you fell — it is that you might forget you are allowed to get back up.
